User verification with Cubbi

Our aim is to make renting property on Cubbi easy and safe for Owners and Renters.


At certain stages of using Cubbi you may be required to verify your identity and other provide verification documentation and information depending on the situation.


When you advertise a property or setup a tenancy we ask you to become verified. We also ask you to be verified if your application is Shortlisted as a potential renter.

Why we verify you

  1. For the safety of Owners and Tenants.
  2. To protect you from scammers trying to take your hard earned money.
  3. To abide by strict money transfer laws.


What Information do we ask for

As part of the verification process, we may ask you to provide us with:


  • Legal name, address and/or other personal information
  • ID Document and Selfie Check: we have partnered with Stripe to help verify your identity that includes an ID Document and Selfie check. Please have your Driver's Licence or Passport with you before you start the online process.
    • Photo of your government ID: This can be a driver's licence (front and back) or passport. Learn more about Photo ID examples that we accept.
    • Selfie Check: You will be asked to capture a Selfie during the verification process online. A selfie check ensures the face pictures belong to the same person.

If you're an Owner, we will also require:

  • Proof of Ownership: To advertise a property or set up a tenancy we ask for Proof of Ownership. Learn more about Proof of Ownership examples that we accept. Please note, if you do not own the property we may also require the owner of the property to complete a verification check as well however we will notify you first if that is required.

In some cases:

  • Bank account verification: before you can receive payouts you must verify your bank account. This stops you (and fraudulent people) from entering a bank account you don't have access to. Learn more about Bank account verification. You may also be asked to successfully complete the bank account verification process if your account has been marked as potentially fraudulent.


How long does it take to verify your identity

Once you've submitted your information, it may take some time for your identity and other information to be confirmed. It’s important to ensure that the information you provide is valid, accurate and up to date—otherwise it may take longer to process.


As a general guide, verification can take a few minutes to to 1-2 business days depending on the information we require. For example if you're becoming an Owner adverting your property or setting up a tenancy, we require Proof of Ownership, in these cases the verification can take longer depending on the accuracy of the documentation you provide.



When we verify your identity

When you advertise a property or setup a tenancy for the first time we ask you to become verified. We also ask you to be verified if your application is Shortlisted as a potential renter.


As an Owner

When advertising a property

  • After creating your advertisement and choosing to publish your advertisement, we will immediately ask you to provide verification information such as Proof of Ownership and complete our ID Document and Self Check. Your advertisement will not be published until you're verified.

Please note: In some cases you can be verified within minutes after completing our online Identity Verification process, however further checks may be performed in the background that may mark your account as potential fraudulent, if this is the case, you account will be unverified and you advertisement will be unpublished (paused temporality) until you can provide the adequate information that we require to verify your account.


When setting up a tenancy

As an Owner, when you setup a tenancy (invite a tenant into Cubbi), immediately after completing the invitation process we will ask you to provide verification information and complete our ID Document and Self Check. Your Invitation to the tenant will not be sent until you're verified.


As a Renter

Applying for a Property

As a Renter you will need to verify your identity when you apply for a property and your application is Shortlisted. You will receive a notification when you're shortlisted to complete our ID Document and Selfie Check.

You can also complete the Identity Verification from your Renter Profile linked to your application by logging into Cubbi.

Please note you can only complete the Identity Verification process if you're Shortlisted.


Keeping you ID Document safe and secure:

From early 2024, renters completing the Stripe ID Document and Selfie Check, we do not share these documents with Owners on the Cubbi platform within your Application. Instead we will provide a Identity Verified badge on your application so Owners know you have successfully completed the Identity Verification process and returned verified.



How we keep your information safe

Your documents will be kept confidential, safe and secure and safe on our servers and not shared with anyone in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
