Lodging a Bond in Australian Capital Territory
The bond paid by your tenants must be lodged with the Office of Rental Bonds. It is illegal to hold the bond money in your own account. Property owners must lodge the bond within two weeks of receipt of the bond or commencement of the tenancy, whichever the later.
Step by Step Guide
- The bond can be any amount not exceeding the first four weeks rent. Bond is paid via BPAY or NPP via Cubbi and held in trust until move in day before the funds are released to the Owner.
- The bond is required to be lodged via the Rental Bond Portal of ACT within 2 weeks of receipt.
- Create an Rental Bond online account here.
- Once you create an account online you will be able to lodge the bond online. Once the owner submits the form online, the owner will pay via Direct Deposit on behalf of the tenant. Once received and paid, the ACT bond authority will email receipts to all parties.
